The Clot

العلق

20 verses · Maulawi Sher Ali translation

بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ ﴿۱﴾

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
96:2

اِقۡرَاۡ بِاسۡمِ رَبِّکَ الَّذِیۡ خَلَقَ ۚ﴿۲﴾

[✲]Convey thou in the name of thy Lord Who created,
96:3

خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ ۚ﴿۳﴾

[✲]Created man from a clot of blood.
96:4

اِقۡرَاۡ وَرَبُّکَ الۡاَکۡرَمُ ۙ﴿۴﴾

[✲]Convey! And thy Lord is Most Generous,
96:5

الَّذِیۡ عَلَّمَ بِالۡقَلَمِ ۙ﴿۵﴾

[✲]Who taught man by the pen,

عَلَّمَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مَا لَمۡ یَعۡلَمۡ ؕ﴿۶﴾

Taught man what he knew not.

کَلَّاۤ اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لَیَطۡغٰۤی ۙ﴿۷﴾

Nay! man does indeed transgress,

اَنۡ رَّاٰہُ اسۡتَغۡنٰی ﴿ؕ۸﴾

Because he thinks himself to be independent.

اِنَّ اِلٰی رَبِّکَ الرُّجۡعٰی ؕ﴿۹﴾

Surely, unto thy Lord is the return.

اَرَءَیۡتَ الَّذِیۡ یَنۡہٰی ۙ﴿۱۰﴾

Hast thou seen him who forbids

عَبۡدًا اِذَا صَلّٰی ﴿ؕ۱۱﴾

A servant of Ours when he prays?
96:12

اَرَءَیۡتَ اِنۡ کَانَ عَلَی الۡہُدٰۤی ﴿ۙ۱۲﴾

[✲]Tell me if he (Our servant) follows the guidance
96:13

اَوۡ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقۡوٰی ﴿ؕ۱۳﴾

[✲]Or enjoins righteousness, what will be the end of the forbidder?
96:14

اَرَءَیۡتَ اِنۡ کَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰی ﴿ؕ۱۴﴾

[✲]Tell me if he (the forbidder) rejects and turns his back,
96:15

اَلَمۡ یَعۡلَمۡ بِاَنَّ اللّٰہَ یَرٰی ﴿ؕ۱۵﴾

[✲]Does he not know that Allah sees him?
96:16

کَلَّا لَئِنۡ لَّمۡ یَنۡتَہِ ۬ۙ لَنَسۡفَعًۢا بِالنَّاصِیَۃِ ﴿ۙ۱۶﴾

[✲]Nay, if he desist not, We will assuredly seize and drag him by the forelock,
96:17

نَاصِیَۃٍ کَاذِبَۃٍ خَاطِئَۃٍ ﴿ۚ۱۷﴾

[✲]A forelock lying, sinful.
96:18

فَلۡیَدۡعُ نَادِیَہٗ ﴿ۙ۱۸﴾

[✲]Then let him call his associates,

سَنَدۡعُ الزَّبَانِیَۃَ ﴿ۙ۱۹﴾

We too will call Our angels of punishment who will thrust him into Hell.

کَلَّا ؕ لَا تُطِعۡہُ وَاسۡجُدۡ وَاقۡتَرِبۡ ﴿٪ٛ۲۰﴾

Nay, yield not thou to him, but prostrate thyself and draw near to God.
