Privacy Notice

AhmadiyyaOne is a digital companion for members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. We take the trust you place in us seriously — especially because some of the information here concerns your faith. This notice explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, where it is kept, and the rights you have over it under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller — the body that decides how and why your data is used — is:

What we collect
We only collect what the app needs to work:
- Account details — your name, email address, and an encrypted password, so you can sign in.
- Profile details you choose to add — username, display name, a short bio, gender, your local Jamaat, and an optional profile photo.
- Your membership status within the Community, confirmed by your local Jamaat's organizers.
- Content you create — community posts, comments, reactions, private messages, prayer-tracking, bookmarks, and feedback.
- Basic technical information — such as your browser type and language — needed to run and secure the service.
Information about your faith
Because this app serves the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the fact that you use it as a member reveals your religious belief. Under GDPR (Article 9) this is 'special category' data that receives extra protection. We process it only with your explicit consent, given when you create an account, and only to provide the community features you ask for. You may withdraw this consent at any time by deleting your account.
Our lawful basis
We rely on your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) and, for the religious information above, your explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a)). You are never required to provide more than you wish — some features simply will not be available without the relevant detail.
Where your data is stored
Your data is held by Supabase, our database and authentication provider, on servers located in the European Union (EU West region, Ireland). It is never sold, rented, or shared for advertising. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the app (such as our email provider for confirmation messages) and only where required by law. Two features rely on outside services: MTA streams use YouTube's video player (YouTube's own privacy practices apply while you watch), and prayer times are calculated by sending your chosen location directly from your browser to the Aladhan service — your location is never stored on our servers.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, messages, and related records are removed from our active database. Backups rotate on a routine schedule and are overwritten over time. One exception: your entry on the membership roster (your name and email, maintained by your local Jamaat's organizers as the Jamaat's own membership record) remains until an organizer removes it — you can request this from your organizer at any time.
Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct it if it is wrong or incomplete — most details can be edited in your profile settings.
- Delete your account and your data (the 'right to be forgotten'), directly from your profile settings.
- Withdraw your consent at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as the app grows. When we make a significant change, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify members within the app.
