بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ ﴿۱﴾
In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.Surah 80 · Meccan
‘Abasa
He Frowned
عبس
43 verses · Maulawi Sher Ali translation
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلّٰۤی ۙ﴿۲﴾
He frowned and turned aside,اَنۡ جَآءَہُ الۡاَعۡمٰی ؕ﴿۳﴾
Because there came to him the blind man.وَمَا یُدۡرِیۡکَ لَعَلَّہٗ یَزَّکّٰۤی ۙ﴿۴﴾
And what makes thee know that he may be seeking to purify himself,اَوۡ یَذَّکَّرُ فَتَنۡفَعَہُ الذِّکۡرٰی ؕ﴿۵﴾
Or he may take heed and the Reminder may benefit him?اَمَّا مَنِ اسۡتَغۡنٰی ۙ﴿۶﴾
As for him who is disdainfully indifferent.فَاَنۡتَ لَہٗ تَصَدّٰی ؕ﴿۷﴾
Unto him thou dost pay attention,وَمَا عَلَیۡکَ اَلَّا یَزَّکّٰی ؕ﴿۸﴾
Though thou art not responsible if he does not become purified.وَاَمَّا مَنۡ جَآءَکَ یَسۡعٰی ۙ﴿۹﴾
But he who comes to thee hastening,وَہُوَ یَخۡشٰی ۙ﴿۱۰﴾
And he fears God,فَاَنۡتَ عَنۡہُ تَلَہّٰی ﴿ۚ۱۱﴾
Him dost thou neglect.کَلَّاۤ اِنَّہَا تَذۡکِرَۃٌ ﴿ۚ۱۲﴾
Nay! surely it is a Reminder —فَمَنۡ شَآءَ ذَکَرَہٗ ﴿ۘ۱۳﴾
So let him who desires pay heed to it —فِیۡ صُحُفٍ مُّکَرَّمَۃٍ ﴿ۙ۱۴﴾
On honoured sheets.مَّرۡفُوۡعَۃٍ مُّطَہَّرَۃٍۭ ﴿ۙ۱۵﴾
Exalted, purified,بِاَیۡدِیۡ سَفَرَۃٍ ﴿ۙ۱۶﴾
In the hands of writers,کِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَۃٍ ﴿ؕ۱۷﴾
Noble and virtuous.قُتِلَ الۡاِنۡسَانُ مَاۤ اَکۡفَرَہٗ ﴿ؕ۱۸﴾
Ruin seize the man! how ungrateful he is!مِنۡ اَیِّ شَیۡءٍ خَلَقَہٗ ﴿ؕ۱۹﴾
Of what does He create him?مِنۡ نُّطۡفَۃٍ ؕ خَلَقَہٗ فَقَدَّرَہٗ ﴿ۙ۲۰﴾
Of a sperm-drop! He creates him and proportions him;ثُمَّ السَّبِیۡلَ یَسَّرَہٗ ﴿ۙ۲۱﴾
Then He makes the Way easy for him,ثُمَّ اَمَاتَہٗ فَاَقۡبَرَہٗ ﴿ۙ۲۲﴾
Then He causes him to die and assigns a grave to him;ثُمَّ اِذَا شَآءَ اَنۡشَرَہٗ ﴿ؕ۲۳﴾
Then, when He pleases, He will raise him up again.کَلَّا لَمَّا یَقۡضِ مَاۤ اَمَرَہٗ ﴿ؕ۲۴﴾
Nay! he has not yet done what He commanded him to do.فَلۡیَنۡظُرِ الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِلٰی طَعَامِہٖۤ ﴿ۙ۲۵﴾
Now let man look at his food:اَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا الۡمَآءَ صَبًّا ﴿ۙ۲۶﴾
How We pour down water in abundance,ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا الۡاَرۡضَ شَقًّا ﴿ۙ۲۷﴾
Then We cleave the earth — a proper cleaving —فَاَنۡۢبَتۡنَا فِیۡہَا حَبًّا ﴿ۙ۲۸﴾
Then We cause to grow therein grain,وَّعِنَبًا وَّقَضۡبًا ﴿ۙ۲۹﴾
And grapes and vegetables,وَّزَیۡتُوۡنًا وَّنَخۡلًا ﴿ۙ۳۰﴾
And the olive and the date-palm.وَّحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبًا ﴿ۙ۳۱﴾
And walled gardens thickly planted,وَّفَاکِہَۃً وَّاَبًّا ﴿ۙ۳۲﴾
And fruits and herbage,مَّتَاعًا لَّکُمۡ وَلِاَنۡعَامِکُمۡ ﴿ؕ۳۳﴾
Provision for you and your cattle.فَاِذَا جَآءَتِ الصَّآخَّۃُ ﴿۫۳۴﴾
But when the deafening shout comes,یَوۡمَ یَفِرُّ الۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ اَخِیۡہِ ﴿ۙ۳۵﴾
On the day when a man flees from his brother,وَاُمِّہٖ وَاَبِیۡہِ ﴿ۙ۳۶﴾
And from his mother and his father,وَصَاحِبَتِہٖ وَبَنِیۡہِ ﴿ؕ۳۷﴾
And from his wife and his sons,لِکُلِّ امۡرِیٴٍ مِّنۡہُمۡ یَوۡمَئِذٍ شَاۡنٌ یُّغۡنِیۡہِ ﴿ؕ۳۸﴾
Every man among them that day will have concern enough to make him indifferent to others.وُجُوۡہٌ یَّوۡمَئِذٍ مُّسۡفِرَۃٌ ﴿ۙ۳۹﴾
On that day some faces will be bright,ضَاحِکَۃٌ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَۃٌ ﴿ۚ۴۰﴾
Laughing, joyous!وَوُجُوۡہٌ یَّوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَیۡہَا غَبَرَۃٌ ﴿ۙ۴۱﴾
And some faces, on that day, will have dust upon them,تَرۡہَقُہَا قَتَرَۃٌ ﴿ؕ۴۲﴾
Darkness will cover them.اُولٰٓئِکَ ہُمُ الۡکَفَرَۃُ الۡفَجَرَۃُ ﴿٪۴۳﴾
Those are the ones that disbelieved and were wicked.‘Abasa — He Frowned
